History and tradition

About this celebration

Vratsa's celebration is linked to Botevite dni and the memory of Hristo Botev and his company. In 1885, a committee headed by mayor and former volunteer soldier Ivancho Tsvetkov drew up rules for annual commemorations. Vratsa's first Botev monument opened in 1890, funded mainly by donations; the poet's mother, wife and daughter attended. Later, the monument at Okolchitsa and the memorial Botev pat added further places of remembrance.
