About this celebration

Bratsigovo's celebration on 12 May honours Vasil Petleshkov and those killed from the Bratsigovo insurgent centre in 1876. Local memory links the uprising's beginning to Sindzhirli bunar, where Petleshkov proclaimed it. Tributes are paid on the eve of the commemorative day, and people gather at the monuments on the day itself. Above all, this is a day of gratitude to participants in the April Uprising.

Bulgarian original
