History and tradition

About this celebration

Kazanlak's town celebration forms part of Praznika na rozata. The rose celebration began in 1903 and became increasingly associated with rose cultivation in the valley. Distinctive customs include rose picking, rose distillation and choosing Tsaritsa Roza. The municipal account for 2010 also describes exhibitions of drawings, embroidery and flowers. The civic ceremony has its own place in the shared celebration: the 2026 programme includes a water blessing and raising of the town flag in Square „Sevtopolis“.
