History and tradition

About this celebration

Burgas chose Nikulden as its official celebration through a Municipal Council decision of 29 July 1992. Sv. Nikolay Chudotvorets is honoured as the patron of sailors and fishermen, connecting the feast to the city's maritime livelihood and character. The 6 December celebration is therefore both a church feast and Burgas Day.

Bulgarian original
