History and tradition

About this celebration

Nova Zagora celebrates its town day on Petkovden — the feast of its patron, sveta Petka Balgarska. The municipal account for 2024 begins with bells and a liturgy at the church bearing her name. In Square „Svoboda“, residents gathered with the Guard Brass Band for a water blessing and flag raising. Wreaths at the monument „Zagortsi“ recalled people from the Nova Zagora area killed in the wars of 1912–1918. Church observance, civic ceremony and local family memory came together in one festive day.

Bulgarian original
