History and tradition

About this celebration

The municipality has organised international festival „Surva“ in Pernik since 1966. It brings local survakari and kukeri traditions, older than the festival itself, onto a shared stage. In 2009, the Federation of European Carnival Cities declared Pernik the European capital of survakari and kukeri traditions.
