History and tradition

About this celebration

Kresna's celebration is linked to devotion to sv. Ivan Rilski and the local memorial church and ossuary. Otets Georgi Tanchev tells BTA that the initiative to commemorate those killed in the wars arose in 1938, and the church was consecrated in 1941. He explains the choice of 19 October as the town day through local devotion to the saint. The celebration thus brings together Kresna's religious and military memory.

Bulgarian original
