THE TOWN AT A GLANCE
The prehistoric settlements along Beloslav Lake are sites in the area; the first one was discovered near today's village of Strashimirovo, not in the town of Beloslav. The historical reference of the municipality connects the predecessor of Beloslav with the settlement of Krushevo, known during the Ottoman period as Gebedje. In 1862, a secular school was opened there, and in 1865, a Bulgarian church.
In 1882, Gebedze was renamed Belevo, and since 1940 it has been named Beloslav. The settlement became the center of the municipality in 1979 and a city in 1981. Today it is a municipal center by the lake; local history combines Bulgarian National Revival heritage and a wider archaeological context.
