THE TOWN AT A GLANCE
Traces of prehistoric habitation were found in the caves near the Dryanovsky Monastery; they are in the vicinity, not on the site of the present city. The name Dryanovo appears for the first time in a document from 1470. During the Ottoman period, the settlement developed and by 1869 it received city status and became a district center.
Dryanov citizens participated in the April Uprising of 1876; the battle of the squad of Pope Hariton and Bacho Kiro is in the nearby Dryanovski Monastery. Dryanovo was liberated on July 12, 1877. After the Liberation, factories appeared in the municipality, and in 1930 the town was declared a mountain resort. Today it is a municipal center and a starting point for the monastery and local historical sites.
