THE TOWN AT A GLANCE
On the site of today's Stara Zagora there are traces of a prehistoric settlement. Over the centuries, the city bore the names Beroe, Augusta Traiana, Borui and Eski Zagra. The Museum of Neolithic Dwellings and Ancient Remains preserves part of this long history.
During the Russian-Turkish war, the city was burned. Its restoration began in 1879 with a new town planning plan. Today, Stara Zagora is a regional center with museums, theaters and large green spaces.
