THE TOWN AT A GLANCE
During the Ottoman period, Pravets developed along the road through the Arabakonash Pass, where inns served travelers between Sofia Field and Northern Bulgaria. Local residents participated in the revolutionary movement, also related to the Arabaconash robbery of 1872. In November 1877, near Pravets, battles of the Russo-Turkish War were fought.
After 1944, the settlement grew and was improved. In 1981, Pravets was declared a city; during this period instrument-making and computer technology developed, which gave its name to the Bulgarian computers "Pravets". Today it is a municipal center, and the Historical Museum presents the different eras of local development.
